Welton and I usually came into English class early. We both sat near the back, so we sat in our seats and had our daily two minute conversation before the bell. We were fresh eigth-graders but Welton's voice already sounded like someone's dad and I had grown full height. On this October day, we were scheming something big. Welton and I wanted to make money. We wanted to sell things and see the green. We knew that we would be able to find games to sell or any other merchandise; we just needed a name for our company. We were both Asian, so we needed an Asian name for our startup. I wrote some names down on my Word Wealth book cover but none seemed to work. Suddenly, I realized that when I mocked the way Welton spoke Chinese, the word "Hoching" came to mind. I immediately scribbled this name on the book's cover. The name sounded so odd and funny, yet it was something we could use. So, on that October day, we decided to call any operation between us Hoching. A month later, our first website would go up and many things would have the Hoching label on it from then on. Many kids smirk or mock the name, but Welton and I are content in the accomplishments of Hoching. Four years later, we have a .com site and a basketball league. And to think, it all started with that scribble on my Word Wealth book.
