New Kicks: PUMA Swing GTX

By Andy at 11:21 am on Monday, July 28, 2008

I’ve been wearing the same golf shoes ever since I started golfing 4 years ago. The spikes are worn down, the shoe feels looser, and although they still do the job, I thought that it was time to buy a new pair.

I found a hefty discount for Puma, so I decided to look over their golf shoes. One in particular stood out, the Swing GTX. This is their newest shoe, with a brand new design called Smart Quill technology. The difference is on the bottom of the shoe where instead of soft spikes, there are fiberglass quills that provide the traction.

In the picture below you can see the quills. Another aspect of the design is that the quills on the left shoe are positioned/pointed differently than the right shoe. This is because the left foot and the right foot do different things during the swing, and the quills are designed to help each foot separately.

I’ve played 2 rounds with them so far and they are comfortable. As for the new technology, I can’t say I feel the difference. Maybe just a psychological boost.
