| With heavy anticipation for the road trip, scheduled to begin Thursday, January 16th, I came back to Jersey on the 15th to see my family and also to spend some time with Nigi. My dad had bought me a brand new computer, so I came home eager to install all the necessary software onto it. The Sacramento Kings were playing the Dallas Mavericks on television, so I invited Nigi over to watch as I installed my new computer. The game was pretty much a blowout as the Kings dominated throughout, so Nigi and I had to find other forms of entertainment, and we naturally found one in singing along to our favorite John Mayer songs. “Put on My Stupid Mouth. I like that one the best,” Nigi told me. I loaded it up on my MP3 program and played it. We both knew how most of the song went, so we sang along, but one line stumped us: “How could I forget, Mama said, ‘Think before speaking’... what is he saying after that?” “I think ‘filter’?” Nigi suggested. I realized that the CD booklet contained all the lyrics to his songs, so I quickly looked it up to confirm Nigi’s conjecture and he proved to be correct. “No fil-ter in my head, Oh what’s a boy to do? He better find one, soon...” We gave each other high-fives and sang along passionately a few more times. After talking about various topics, like whether or not 2pac was still alive and Nigi’s decision to pursue film studies much like myself, we dreamt of running a successful restaurant that would support our film projects. The night ended with a promise to play each other in basketball but I assured Nigi that the result would be the same as always: an easy victory for me. |
