preface: somewhere to go Perhaps it was by chance that this entire trip happened. Welton was going back to Dartmouth on the 2nd and had hoped that I could drive up with him, hang out there for a bit, and then come back. But coincidentally, I was scheduled for a mandatory defensive driving class on the 3rd for my traffic violations so I could not take Welton. Instead, we agreed that he would take the train up and I would take my car and come up later on, perhaps with some friends, and bring him anything that he couldn't carry on his own. I expanded this plan by including Boston in the trip thanks to the hospitality of Rich, who let us stay at his frat house. Accompanying me on the trip were Jeff and Big Head. The trip began in the morning of Friday January 11th as we got in my car and headed for Boston. Drinking Poland Spring Water bottles, munching on Crackerjacks and Sun chips while blasting burned CDs of pop, rock, and rap music, the time on the road was relatively short. Not knowing what we would do on our trip, not sure how we would interact with the people we were about to meet, and joking nervously about having great expectations, our little mini-vacation had just the right amount of anticipation, excitement, and even doubt to ensure us that this experience would be unique and memorable.
